From producers of incredible educational resources, Marjorie Aaron and Dwight Golann:
Dear colleagues,
We are writing to let you know of new video resources available for teaching interviewing and counseling, skills we think are key to effective dispute resolution. The videos come with roleplay instructions; you can download them at no charge for classroom use.
These videos contain a new feature – two versions of interviewing and counseling sessions. One video shows a lawyer using excellent practice, while the other shows the same session done with mediocre technique. We know that students find it helpful to see experienced lawyers performing tasks they have just completed, but we have also found that watching a lawyer commit mistakes they have been taught to avoid helps students understand how even small errors can affect a lawyer/client relationship.
You can access the videos and roleplays at the ADR Teaching Center website, in the “Client Counseling” box. You will need a password to access the material, which you can get from Marjorie or Dwight.
Marjorie added that the role play used in the videos , as well as a wealth of other client interviewing and counseling role plays and teaching material, are available on her Client Science website without charge. If you enter through the legal educators portal, the password is “educator” with no quotation marks and no claim to originality.
I would add that if you can’t remember where to find these websites, they are on the DRLE website in the “general teaching materials” section.
