Stone Soup Website and Listserv

We want to let you know that we have created a Stone Soup website and listserv.  The website collects materials in one place for easy access.  The listserv’s goal is to promote communication between people interested in the Stone Soup Project.

We have been in touch with a lot of faculty who said that they were very interested in this project but could not participate this year.  If you are in this situation, we invite you to subscribe to the Stone Soup listserv – no commitment to use a Stone Soup assignment or activity is required to join the listserv.

To subscribe to the Stone Soup listserv, send a message to: listserv@lists.missouri.edu.  In the body of the text, write: subscribe STONESOUP-L firstname lastname.  Obviously, you should substitute your own first and last names.

We hope you will take a few minutes to read the short Stone Soup vision statement.  We encourage you to develop new ideas for advancing our shared goals.  How well we achieve them will depend on the level of motivation, creativity, and collaboration within our community.

So far, the communication in this project has mostly been one-way, with postings on this blog and DRLE listserv messages.  We are now in the process of writing the Stone Soup mini-course, which is a series of posts with more information to help you prepare for your Stone Soup assignment or activity.

For the project to be really successful, we will need colleagues to contribute to this project, sharing experiences, ideas, and resources.  It takes a village to make a really good stone soup.

There are many ways that you can do this.  In the first instance, we encourage you to use your creativity to adapt our general ideas and models to create the best possible assignment or activity to fit your situation.  You can take the initiative to post messages on the Stone Soup listserv with questions, ideas, drafts, etc.  You can write comments responding to posts on the blog or even write guest posts for the blog.

If you have colleagues who might be interested in doing a Stone Soup assignment or activity, please share information with them, remembering that Stone Soup is not just for “ADR courses.”

We hope that you will take ownership and provide leadership, which you can do in small ways whenever the spirit moves you.  If everyone contributes a little, well, you know …

Best,

John Lande and Rafael Gely
