Please Send Us Your Favorite ADR Exercise(s)!

Brian Pappas, Bridget McCormack and I are seeking submissions to include in our upcoming book project that we intend to publish with DRI Press.

We previously invited a small group of experts in Negotiation, Mediation and Arbitration to submit their favorite exercise to us, and received some great entries. We are now widening our call, and asking you (ADR profs, trainers and professionals) to submit your favorite exercises.

From Brian’s email:

The Conflict Resolution Teacher’s Guidebook: Transformational Exercises to Accelerate Learning

Instructors frequently use short exercises that help to accelerate their students’ learning. This open access book for conflict resolution teachers will be a compilation of original or adapted short (10-50 minutes) exercises. The exercises will aid students in advancing their understanding and skills in the areas of negotiation, mediation, arbitration, and restorative justice. The goal of the project is to compile and provide attribution for innovative and effective exercises.

We are seeking your “greatest hits” exercise that you use over and over because they are effective at helping students learn specific concepts. We are open to original and adapted exercises, and we are hoping to find attribution for exercises that have long been done, but don’t have a source. In addition to original exercises, many of us have adaptations that we have evolved over the years. We especially want to highlight classic exercises that are being used in new ways.

Please submit exercises of up to one page (no roleplays!) in outline form that includes 1) an introduction of the exercise, 2) how you execute and debrief it, and 3) the significance of the exercise. Depending on the responses, exercises may be grouped or combined in order to demonstrate various techniques. You may be asked to expand your contribution for the book. (This is voluntary, if you have the time/inclination)

Even if you are unable to participate right now, we may return to you to determine how widely, and in ways, you use the featured exercises.

Please send us your submissions by March 21, and let us know if you have any questions.

Send submissions or questions to Kelly at kbolson@ualr.edu or Brian at brian.pappas@und.edu.

Thanks for your attention, let us know if you have any questions!
