Who Requires Dispute Resolution?

Sean Nolan recently sent out information from his completed survey of how US law schools integrate dispute resolution into their required curricula. The survey was part of the work completed by the Legal Education, ADR, and Problem-Solving (LEAPS) Task Force of the ABA DR Section. I am pasting the information below:

Survey overview:

The purpose of this survey was to find out how many US law school integrate non-litigation dispute resolution (NLDR) the required curriculum. This was a two part survey, with the first being a short “survey monkey” and the second being a follow-up telephone interviews. Out of the 138 respondents to the survey, 37 indicated that their schools integrated NLDR material into their required curriculum. However, the follow-up interviews revealed that only 17 out of the 37 were required courses for all students.

At those schools, this NLDR material was integrated into a variety of different courses: 7 were Legal Writing courses, 7 were Lawyering courses and 5 were traditional doctrinal courses like Civil Procedure. The narrative summaries of those 17 schools are posted at:
