Director, Center for Negotiation and Dispute Resolution – UC Hastings

Last week (or so) Melissa Nelken at UC Hastings announced that Grande Lum has been nominated to a post at the Department of Justice and has resigned as CNDR’s Director.  Excerpts from the job posting are below.  And just in case you weren’t sure, this is a great gig.

Under the administrative direction of the Academic Dean, the Director leads the Center for Negotiation & Dispute Resolution and is responsible for its academic program and the administration of its office.  The Director works in coordination with the Center’s Faculty Chair and other ADR faculty.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Typical duties and responsibilities consist of, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Teach ADR classes;
  • Develop new classes;
  • Coordinate collaborative initiatives with other Hastings faculty and Centers;
  • Serve on faculty committees;
  • Advise students;
  • Create new teaching resources such as classroom units, simulations and DVDs;
  • Recruit, train, coach, and evaluate adjunct faculty to teach the Center’s courses;
  • Create continuing education programs to enhance the faculty’s substantive knowledge and teaching skills; 
  • Manage the Center’s budget;
  • Develop the annual teaching schedule;
  • Supervise the Academic Program Coordinator, the Negotiation & Mediation Team Coach, and student assistants employed in the Center’s office; 
  • Assist the Negotiation & Mediation Team prepare for competitions and may travel with the Team;
  • Develop conferences, symposia, speakers programs, and for-profit training; 
  • Work with local government and non-profit organizations to promote the use of alternative dispute resolution and to promote clinical and extern placements for advanced students.
