Mediation TV–“Fairly Legal”

In the upcoming show, Fairly Legal, a young lawyer leaves the practice of law and, as the promo says,

“thanks to her innate understanding of human nature, thorough legal knowledge, and wry sense of humor, Kate is a natural when it comes to dispute resolution.”

I definitely like that dispute resolution experts are recognized as both witty and knowledgeable!   Here is the lead in clip for a new television show being promoted by USA to start next January.  We’ll have to see how it actually plays out but I am crossing my fingers for something to be able to use in class.   (And hat tip to Ben Scott for sending this along.)

  1. I am in high hopes that this show will bring our profession out of the mists of confusion which cause me to spend as much time educating clients as to what I do as I actually spend mediating their cases! Unfortunately, after watching many cops and lawyers shows, I have my fears. TV tends to warp most anything it touches. However, perhaps it will at least raise our profile. I, for one, intend to do some “public service/educational” advertising during the program!

  2. If people start thinking of running for the mediator before running for the courthouse, then “Fairly Legal” will have accomplished its goal.

  3. The plot was great, but the lead actress, am I the only one who noticed she is channeling Sandra Bullock, from rapid eye blinks to that cute stuttering Bullock does? I like Sandra, but man that got distracting.
