Videos and Other Ideas for the ADR Survey Class

Following up on an interesting session on “Teaching the ADR Survey Class” at the ABA meeting last weekend in San Francisco, I wanted to post a couple links for people more interested in using videotapes and other interactive media in teaching their class.

First, courtesy of Vivian Hilder at Manitoba, I link here to a game that she referred to in the session.  Click on the on “Course Demo–The Print Shop” at the bottom of the page.  This is an interactive module that lets you make different choices and then see how your choices play out, much like a “choose your own ending” storybook.  Having just played for 20 minutes and not yet found the perfect answer, I am hooked (but stopped playing to finish this blogpost!)

A similar game, called Peacemaker, let’s you play the Israeli Prime Minister or the Palestinian President in peace negotiation.  I’ve blogged on this before and also have just published an article about how to use the game as a teaching tool in the Ohio State Journal on Dispute Resolution linked here

For those of you at the session or not, please feel free to send along other links or teaching ideas–we are happy to post them!

  1. Here is a web site that has arbitration awards. The awards are both union grievance awards and non union grievance awards. The faculty and students at Grand Valley State University have developed the web site and are constantly adding to the site. They also use it as a text for their arbitration and collective bargaining class. The site is a public service and there is no fee.
