Proposal Deadline Extended – AALS Works-in-Progress Conference

The AALS Dispute Resolution Section’s Executive Committee is seeking a host for the 5th Annual Works-in-Progress Conference to take place in the fall of 2011.  The Section’s Executive Committee has decided to extend the proposal deadline to noon Eastern time on Monday September 20th.   Proposals should be sent to me care of my assistant Suzy Lynn at suzanne.lynn@asu.edu.  In the subject matter line, please put “AALS ADR Section WIP Conference Proposal.”

A copy of the RFP in its entirety is here, and a short excerpt is below.   And don’t forget that this year’s WIP Conference will be taking place at the University of Oregon School of Law and promises to be a great event.

The Section’s Executive Committee will consider several criteria in selecting the next host institution, including:

  • Proximity to an airport and reasonably-priced hotels
  • Planned mechanisms to enhance attendance and participation by knowledgeable local professionals and academics
  • Planned outreach to attract junior faculty, reflecting a diversity of views
  • Planned mechanisms to enhance the rigorous yet collegial atmosphere of the program
  • Indications of institutional support for the conference (e.g., funds for meals, sufficient staffing)
  • Planned mechanisms for appropriate consultation with the Conference Planning Committee regarding conference preparation, publicity, and presenter selection
  • Demonstrated experience with hosting similar events
  • Any special circumstances that support an institution’s application
