AALS SECTION ON ALTERNATIVE DISPUTE RESOLUTION
CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
2026-2027 NEW VOICES IN DISPUTE RESOLUTION PROGRAM

The AALS Section on Alternative Dispute Resolution announces the call for applications for the 2026-2027 mentorship program entitled “New Voices in Dispute Resolution.”

New Voices in Dispute Resolution is a year-long mentorship program in which junior scholars will be paired with senior mentors in the field for the purposes of obtaining feedback on their current scholarship. During the fall semester, the mentor will be available to discuss one academic project related to dispute resolution that the junior scholar is developing and provide feedback on a draft of the associated article. In the spring, the mentor will host the junior scholar at their institution to present the article, inviting both in person and online attendees.

Past program scholars include Becca Donaldson (Marquette), Nicholas Parra-Herrera (Utah), Ylli Dautaj (Penn State), Hossein Fazilatfar (Creighton), Henry Wang (Florida State), and Ashley Votruba (Nebraska). Past program mentors include Andrea Schneider (Cardozo), Cynthia Alkon (Texas A&M), Stephen Ware (Kansas), Julian Arato (Michigan), Ellen Deason (Ohio State), and Jean Sternlight (UNLV).

Applicants for the New Voices in Dispute Resolution program should have less than six years of teaching or research experience at a college or university, in any field. Tenure track faculty as well as scholars who are employed through visiting and long-term contracts are eligible. We will give priority to pre-tenure candidates. Mentors will be solicited once the New Voices in Dispute Resolution Scholars have been selected.

We will select two scholars for the 2026-27 academic year. Each successful applicant will earn the designation of New Voices in Dispute Resolution Scholar. In addition, Negotiation and Team Resources is supporting the New Voices initiative by awarding
each successful applicant a Stephen B. Goldberg ADR Scholar Award of $1,500 for their travel expenses. These awards are in honor of Steve Goldberg whose groundbreaking ADR research and teaching serves as an inspiration for so many scholars. Successful applicants will bear any expenses incurred beyond the amount of the award.

Applications should include: (1) a current CV, (2) a letter (one single-spaced page maximum) addressed to Professor Ronald Aronovsky, Chair of the AALS Section on Alternative Dispute Resolution, that (a) describes your interest in the mentorship offered by the program and explains how you meet the New Voices criteria and (b) includes a link to your biography on your school’s website, and (3) a  description (one single-spaced page maximum) of the academic project for which you would like mentorship (do not propose multiple or alternative projects). You must combine all three
documents into a single PDF file.

To apply, please use this form. The form will request contact information (name, institution, title, email, and phone number) and allow you to upload the required PDF file. Please do not email applications. You should receive an automated response e-mail acknowledging receipt of your application.

Applications are due by 11:59 p.m. (Eastern time) on Monday, August 3, 2026. If you have any questions or do not receive an email acknowledging receipt of your application, please contact Professor Ronald Aronovsky, Chair of the AALS Section on Alternative Dispute Resolution, at raronovsky@swlaw.edu.
