Cribbing from the announcement recently sent by Donna Shestowsky (UC-Davis) via the listserv.  Good luck !!

The AALS Section on Alternative Dispute Resolution invites submissions for its annual “Best Scholarly Article” Award.  This award will recognize the best dispute resolution article published in a law review or other academic journal, in print or online, bearing a 2023 volume date.  The Section began presenting this award in 2019.  Past recipients are listed here.

Articles must have been published in a law review or other academic journal, in print or online, bearing a 2023 volume date.

Only one single article will be considered by any given author. Thus, if an author is nominated for more than one article  (by several different nominators, for example), the author will be contacted by competition administrators so that they can decide which article will be considered by the judging committee. Please note that co-authored articles are less restricted—an author could have one “single author” article considered by the judging committee along with one or more articles co-authored with others.

The following works are ineligible: (1) books and book chapters; (2) works-in-progress not yet accepted for publication; (3) any article accepted for publication in a 2024 volume or later; and (4) any article written while the author was a student.

Submitted articles must be anonymized. The following information must be redacted from any article submitted to the competition:

  1. the name of the author(s) as well as the name of the employer(s) of the author(s);
  2. any author-identifying information in the text and footnotes of the article; and
  3. any indication of the name of the journal in which the piece has been, or will be, published

Submissions should be emailed with the article attached (in Microsoft Word or PDF format, and conforming to all submission criteria listed above) to the Section’s Chair Regent (Donna Shestowsky at dshest@ucdavis.edu) before 5 pm PST on June 3, 2024. In the subject line please write: “2023 Best Article Submission.” The text of the email, whether sent by the author or by someone else, must contain the following information for each article: (1) Author name and email address; (2) Name of the law review or academic journal in which the article has been published; and (3) Publication date.
