AALS 2021: ADR Panel

This year’s AALS will be a virtual meeting, which for many of us means that we will actually be able to attend the meeting. I just signed up and selected my “agenda” of programs. Among those is the panel brought to us by our ADR Section — “Effective Twitter Advocacy: Is It Possible?” — it sounds amazing! Here is the description:

Substantive debates about law and policy are increasingly happening on social media platforms like Twitter. If the purpose of legal scholarship is to share our ideas beyond the academy, how might we do that more effectively? How might we turn the challenges of Twitter—including character limits and speed of transmission — into advantages for engaging with a broader audience? In addition, how might we apply the tools of ADR to overcome the lack of trust and adherence to positions as well as negative identities so prevalent on social media while contributing in a way that is concise, content-rich, candid, and compelling?

The panelists are ADR superstars Carli Conklin (Missouri); Jonathan Cohen (Florida); Noam Ebner (Creighton);and Lauren Newell (Ohio Northern). They are joined by Carissa Byrne Hessick (North Carolina), a luminary in the legal academy who teaches criminal law and procedure, among other subjects.

This is sure to be a wonderful event. The panel takes place on Thursday, January 7, from 1:15-2:30 P.M. (Eastern, I think — I just realized that I don’t know. Hopefully Eastern is the default, but if it isn’t, please let me know!).
