Opportunity at the U.S. Air Force Academy

There is a an interesting opportunity at the U.S. Air Force Academy.  Many probably saw this post on the List Serve, but in case anyone is interested and didn’t see it, I am happy to post it here from the Friends of Indisputably at the Air Force Academy:

The link to the job announcement is: here

This is the notice from Maj. Leone that was posted on the Listserve:

The Department of Law at the United States Air Force Academy, located just north of Colorado Springs, Colorado, anticipates establishing a full time 12-month faculty position for an Associate Professor of Law (#18-62DFL) or Professor of Law (#18-63DFL) beginning June 24, 2019. The successful candidate will head and develop the Law Department’s Leadership and Appropriate Dispute Resolution (LADR) program into a nationally recognized negotiations program. In its third year, the LADR program aims to accomplish two goals: to teach world-class negotiation skills to USAFA cadets and to contribute to the larger academic discussion of alternative/appropriate dispute resolution practice and theory. The successful candidate will join a group of experienced and enthusiastic civilian and military professors and be responsible for leading the expansion of the Law Department’s LADR program for cadets, JAGs, and external audiences, as well as developing relationships with the academic community, military and civilian clients in the Department of Defense, and other relevant stakeholders. The successful candidate will teach 2 to 3 sections each semester of an introductory and/or advanced Negotiations course and ADR courses; develop Air Force JAGs to teach and practice negotiations and ADR in their careers; advise and support students; and engage in scholarly activities including presenting at conferences and publishing in academic journals. We are interested in candidates with a record of teaching, leadership and administrative experience or a potential to serve as a leader and administrator of a negotiations program, as well as a record of publishing, presenting at conferences, and professional engagement in actual negotiations.

The USAF Academy does not offer tenure. Initial faculty appointments are for 3 years. At the end of the second year, the original appointment may be extended for an additional 3 years (6 years total) with the possibility of successive extensions. This appointment system provides long-term employment stability for reappointment-eligible faculty with extensions occurring with at least 3 years remaining on a current appointment. Extensions are based on an assessment of performance, Air Force and departmental needs, and financial constraints. Historically, 95% of eligible faculty are extended, and the average length of time on faculty for those currently serving in this system exceeds 12 years.

Minimum salary for a candidate hired at the Associate Professor of Law level (#18-62DFL) is $138,567. Minimum salary for a candidate hired at the Professor of Law level (#18-63DFL) is $170,684.
