I am grateful that our community (in this blog, on the listserv, and elsewhere) has been highlighting examples of public apologies (see the SNL apology below, among many other apology-related posts in our archives). I read this tribute to Stan Lee this morning, and thought about how wonderful it is to see public expressions of appreciation. When it comes to building/repairing relationships and working through polarizing times, apologies are crucial — and so are acknowledgements of what we hold in common, as well as appreciation for the contributions of others. RIP Stan Lee.

Appreciation has also been a strategy in Structured Negotiation and in my work advancing digital access for people with disabilities. I wrote about that in an article titled: “Gratitude for a Poached Egg (An Accessibility and Negotiation Strategy” https://www.lflegal.com/2018/03/gratitude/
