Seeing Through Others’ Eyes

The New York Times just published a piece that really grabs me.  It is a collection of photos and quotes of Iranians about their expectations from the recent agreement prohibiting Iranian nuclear weapon development.

For one thing, the photos are wonderfully compelling and artistic images.  They display the faces of people from a country considered as an enemy, so our media’s depictions generally are tainted by this hostility.  This piece shows sympathetic portraits of a wide range of people we don’t normally see.

As DR experts, we often analyze potential effects of agreements, which is relatively easy in smaller disputes.  It is much harder to gauge the numerous and complex consequences of something like the Iranian nuclear deal.  This piece provides a glimpse of this through the eyes of some everyday Iranians.
