Hot off the presses – Bob Mnookin, the Samuel Williston Professor of Law at Harvard and Director of the Harvard Negotiation Research Project, will receive the ABA Dispute Resolution Section’s Award for Outstanding Scholarly Work. Here is the official announcement.
Robert Mnookin, the Samuel Williston Professor of Law at Harvard Law School, Chair of the Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School, and Director of the Harvard Negotiation Research Project, has been named the 2016 recipient of the ABA Section of Dispute Resolution Award for Outstanding Scholarly Work, which honors individuals whose scholarship has contributed significantly to the field of dispute resolution.
Professor Mnookin is one of the leading figures in the field of dispute resolution, known particularly for applying interdisciplinary insights to a broad range of public and private problems. A graduate of Harvard College, where he received an undergraduate degree in economics, as well as Harvard Law School, Mnookin went on to serve as a law clerk to Supreme Court Justice John M. Harlan. Before returning to Harvard as a professor, he practiced law at a San Francisco firm and then taught law at the University of California at Berkeley and later at Stanford University, where he was also a Fellow at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences.
Professor Mnookin’s many books and scholarly articles address practical as well as theoretical issues. He has focused particularly on disputes arising in the family context and on those occurring in international settings, including the Middle East, Belgium, and Afghanistan. His writing is always clear, succinct and precise, often showing how complex social science concepts can be tremendously helpful to practicing attorneys and other negotiators. At the same time, his work is highly readable and often even fun.
The award will be presented to Professor Mnookin at the Legal Educator’s Colloquium Award Presentation and Breakfast on April 9 at the Section’s Spring Conference in New York City.
