Winners of 2010 Dispute Resolution Triathlon

This past weekend, the Hugh L. Carey Center for Dispute Resolution at St. John’s and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) hosted the second annual Securities Dispute Resolution Triathlon at St. John’s Manhattan campus. The Triathlon combines negotiation, mediation, and arbitration in one competition, as students play the roles of parties and attorneys in a realistic securities dispute. Twenty- two teams representing seventeen law schools competed, with one hundred professional neutrals from FINRA’s roster serving as mediators, arbitrators and judges.

Vermont won the Negotiation round, while Quinnipiac won the Mediation round. Seton Hall rode its win in the Arbitration round to the Overall Championship. Fordham took the Advocate’s Choice Award, determined based on a survey of each of the competitors to identify the lawyers they would most want to work with in the future.

The third annual Securities Dispute Resolution Triathlon will be held at St. John’s on October 15 and 16, 2011.

  1. Paul,
Thanks to you and Elayne for playing the gracious hosts and putting on a top-notch event. Our Vermont Law School team had a great time and found the whole experience very rewarding.
We’re looking forward to it for next year!
